10,082

10,082 was an experiment to document David Blaine and his test of endurance to bury himself alive for 1 week without food or water. Buried 6 ft. under in a clear casket, Blaine survived on a teaspoon of water a day along with a catheter. I spent much of that week observing him at all hours of the day and night. I was transfixed with the idea that I had encountered and engaged with many people , places and experiences while he laid in still restlessness. By week's end I grabbed my Super 8mm camera and tripod and with the permission of his team, perched myself above him to photograph him over the course of 14 hours at 1 frame every minute. The process became very meditative as I sat above in lotus posture. The resulting film (at 18fps) is a meditation on claustrophobia.
